Mason Hayes & Curran: Supporting Art and Education

School Children visit the RHA through Mason Hayes & Curran Partnership

Mason Hayes & Curran (MHC) is a full service business law firm with 80 partners and offices in Dublin, New York, San Francisco and London. At MHC the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme is driven by a CSR Committee which includes representatives from across the firm, including partners, lawyers and professional support staff. The CSR Programme focuses on four areas: environmental responsibility; pro bono services; charitable giving with a focus on education; and art.

Support of the visual arts is a core part of the CSR strategy. In addition to holding one of the country’s most significant private corporate collections of Irish and international contemporary art MHC work closely with visual arts organisations to provide support with a particular emphasis on education programmes.

MHC has been shortlisted in the Best Community Engagement category at the 2017 Management Partner Forum (MPF) Management Excellence Awards in the UK for their work with Dublin’s Royal Hibernian Academy and their Art Avenues Community Engagement Programme.

MHC’s sponsorship funds a special art education programme at the RHA involving three schools located in Ringsend near MHC’s offices. Through the programme students from St. Patrick's Boys and Girls primary schools in Ringsend learn about the work of an artist and their creative processes through a series of workshops with RHA artists both in the classroom and on studio visits to the RHA. The resulting artwork is exhibited at MHC’s offices for staff, parents and teachers. Second level students from Ringsend College are participating in similar studio visits and workshops and additionally take part in a career pathways session where they learn about the various roles of staff at the RHA.

Commenting on the new partnership Natasha McKenna, head of Mason Hayes & Curran’s Art Committee said, “We are delighted not only to continue and expand our work with local children and help them to engage with the artistic community from an early age, but also to encourage children of all ages to visit the RHA and develop their creative skills”
Mason Curran & Hayes’ partnership approach enables arts organisations to improve their own Corporate Social Responsibility through increased community engagement. Director of the RHA, Patrick T. Murphy commented that “support by Mason Hayes & Curran means that we can re-instate an active, engaging and exciting Children’s Art Education Programme at the RHA. Their generosity means we can offer an even wider experience for families with children visiting the galleries.”

The partnership with the RHA follows on from a previous partnership with Temple Bar Gallery & Studios which began in 2013 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of TBG&S establishment. This collaboration won the Best Small Sponsorship award at the Allianz Business to Arts Awards in 2014.
