Overview of CSR Initiative:
Developing Enterprise Ireland’s CSR Statement


Like many organisations, much of how Enterprise Ireland (EI) works is aligned with the principles of CSR and examples of CSR activities can be seen right across the organisation.
In developing its approach to CSR EI engaged widely across the organisation:
• A steering group was established to drive the delivery of EI’s CSR statement and support implementation.
• A CSR Champion has been appointed to drive the CSR Agenda across EI and raise awareness among staff and clients.
• A CSR Survey was carried out which received approx. 250 responses from staff across the organisation.
• Four working groups including 50+ colleagues from all parts of the agency were established to develop our response to each of the 4 core dimensions of CSR (Community / Environment / Marketplace / Workplace) and identify priority actions.
• Our CSR Statement was presented to our Board and Senior Management Team and endorsed by them. The Steering Group will provide regular updates on progress against priority actions in each of the four areas.


This CSR Statement represents our vision for responsible and sustainable business practice through the adoption and implementation of best practice in CSR. We are committed to delivering and implementing a meaningful CSR Statement and as such there has been a real focus on ensuring that there is additionality in all of the priority actions.


This represents the first phase of our CSR strategy and the intention is to build on this and add further CSR deliverables and actions as we progress. The aim is to ensure CSR is embedded in Enterprise Ireland’s culture and ways of working. Our CSR Statement is a staff driven initiative that will continue to evolve on an ongoing basis as the strategy develops.


CSR Dimension:
Enterprise Ireland’s CSR activities are centred around four pillars, in line with the four core dimensions of CSR (Community / Environment / Marketplace / Workplace) established in Towards Responsible Business: The 2nd National Plan on CSR 2017-2020. Priority actions have been identified by under each pillar that will be delivered in 2019.

Business Impact:
The approach taken to developing Enterprise Ireland’s CSR Statement has already delivered real benefits in terms of raining awareness and staff engagement right across our office network. The actions that we will implement in 2019 meet the CSR principle of going ‘beyond compliance’ and will positively impact across our Community, Environment, Marketplace and Workplace.
The framework that has been established is sustainable and can be built upon in future years as we deliver further CSR initiatives.


Learnings:
What did you learn from your experience of creating and implementing a CSR initiative?
In order to develop a robust CSR plan it is important to remain focused on the principles of additionality and ‘beyond compliance’ that are embedded in the National Plan and to involve staff from all parts of your organisation from the outset.

What advice would you give a business starting on their CSR Journey?
In many cases there is a lack of awareness around what CSR is and what it isn’t. By exploring the initiatives already in place and engaging with staff to gather their views on CSR you can get off to a really good start on your CSR journey.
