Dropbox for Good: Cloud Computing Company Grounded in the Community

Dropbox Logo

Dropbox is a file hosting service that offers cloud storage, file synchronisation, personal cloud and client software. At each of the tech giant’s 13 global offices, including Dublin, the Dropbox for Good Corporate Social Responsibility Programme aims to make a tangible and long lasting positive impact in the community. Through this CSR initiative Dropbox Dublin is currently engaged with two organisations, the Solas Project and CASA.

The Solas Project, a registered charity, is a community development charity based in Dublin that works to address the socio-economic and educational imbalances that exist in the community for young people. Through targeted interventions the Solas Project aims to address these issues through learning and mentoring programmes, placing a high value on motivation and self-worth.

Dropbox employees participate as mentors in the Solas Business programme, which aims to teach life skills to children while encouraging entrepreneurship and creativity. Dropbox Mentors encourage students to develop a business idea which is then presented to a panel of judges at the Dropox office. The participation of Dropbox in Solas Business enables the Solas Project to implement their vision to improve the lives and opportunities of the young people who they work with in the community.

Through the Dropbox for Good Dublin Programme, Dropbox also work with CASA. CASA is a registered charity that works with and supports people with all disabilities – physical, sensory and intellectual and of all ages. CASA organise regular visits to the Dropbox Office, where the groups meet with Dropbox employees to gain an insight into the office environment.
Employees at the Dublin Headquarters originate from all corners of the world. The Dropbox for Good Dublin programme gives employees from the different nationalities the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the city which they may know little about and contribute to the local community.

The success of the Dropbox for Good Dublin Programme is testament to the positive impact the programme is having on Dropbox employees who participate in it. Employees are empowered by using their skills through hands on experience to the benefit of the local community. The Dropbox for Good Programme plays an important role in developing the company’s values and provides the opportunity to make a positive contribution in the community where they operate their business.
